The ancient histories of Italy and Greece are revealed together on this fascinating tour as we visit the Colosseum and investigate the excavations of Pompeii. After a cruise to Greece, we visit the first Olympic Stadium, explore some fascinating temples and roam the striking Acropolis and Parthenon.
Itinerary
Day 1 – ARRIVE ROME (2 nights)
Welcome to Rome, the capital of Italy and often referred to as the Eternal City! After check-in time to relax before meeting your Tour Director this afternoon for a Welcome Drink with your fellow travellers. Tonight, why not join in with the Romans on their evening ‘passeggiata’?

Day 2 – ROME SIGHTSEEING AND AT LEISURE
Your morning guided sightseeing tour includes a visit of the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City. Then cross the Tiber for views of the Forum and the Circus Maximus, which was the site of chariot races in the past. A highlight will be an included visit to the mighty Colosseum. This evening, why not enjoy a concert of Italian music with dinner? (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 3 – ROME – POMPEII – BAY OF NAPLES (2 nights)
Drive south today into the Lazio region and past the Abbey of Monte Cassino, scene of fierce fighting during the Second World War, into the fertile land of the Campania. Here visit the excavations of the town of Pompeii on your guided walking tour. When the town was engulfed by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79 – it was literally petrified into being an incredible testimony of Roman life you can see today. Soon arrive at your hotel in the Bay of Naples – in the shadow of the now dormant volcano. Tonight enjoy a delicious home cooked ‘Be My Guest’ dinner in a family run restaurant high above the Bay of Naples and surrounded by lemon groves. (Buffet Breakfast / Be My Guest dinner)

Day 4 – BAY OF NAPLES – SORRENTO – EXCURSION TO CAPRI
Drive to Sorrento for an orientation of the resort and a visit to the inlaid wood workshop to see how some of the local crafts are produced. Then to the port of Sorrento to embark on your cruise to the Isle of Capri. Ascend by funicular through lemon trees and olive groves to the Piazzetta in Capri town where you will enjoy a walking tour. You will be taken to admire breathtaking views over the Faraglioni rocks before returning to the mainland. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner)
Day 5 – BAY OF NAPLES – BRINDISI – AT SEA
Today your journey takes you past Salerno and Potenza to continue east to the port of Brindisi. Here board your overnight ferry for Patras in Greece. (Buffet Breakfast)
Day 6 – AT SEA – PATRAS – OLYMPIA
Cross the Ionian Sea, arriving in the Greek port of Patras in the morning. Then join your coach for the journey to Olympia where you will visit the world’s oldest Olympic Stadium. The first Olympic Games took place here in 776 BC. The Temples of Zeus and Hera are also highlights of your visit here. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner)

Day 7 – OLYMPIA – DELPHI
Today make your way back to Patras and then enjoy a pretty drive to Delphi where, as part of your expert guided walking tour, you will consult the famous Oracle which can predict the future! Then walk the Sacred Way to the Sanctuary of Apollo and visit this ancient archaeological site. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner)

Day 8 – DELPHI – ATHENS (2 nights)
This morning travel past Thebes, birthplace of Oedipus, and on to Athens for your two-night stay. On arrival, your sightseeing tour includes a walking tour of the Acropolis and Parthenon. See the Agora where Socrates taught, plus the Royal Palace, Temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch, before heading to the stadium built for the first modern Olympic Games, which were held in 1896. (Buffet Breakfast)

Day 9 – ATHENS AT LEISURE
The whole day is yours to enjoy. Tonight you shall get together with your Tour Director and travelling companions for a special Farewell Dinner. (Buffet Breakfast / Farewell Dinner)
Day 10 – DEPART ATHENS
Farewell Athens as your fascinating tour of Italy and Greece comes to an end. Airport transfers are available. Conditions apply. You may wish to join a 3-day or one of the 7-day optional cruises. (Buffet Breakfast)
