1 THU: AUSTRALIA/SAIGON

Depart Australia on Singapore Airlines to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Transfer to Sheraton Hotel & Towers for one night. (Brisbane passengers depart one day earlier.)

2 FRI: SAIGON/CAN THO (MEKONG DELTA)

Transfer to bustling My Tho in the Mekong Delta. Visit Vinh Trang Pagoda, a beautiful temple and sanctuary for orphan and needy children. Explore the islands of the Mekong by boat, stopping at an orchard to enjoy fruit and tea. Continue onto the rural city of Can Tho for one night at Victoria Can Tho Hotel.

3 SAT: CAN THO/SAIGON

An early start to browse the floating markets of Cai Rang where boats loaded with local produce are moored alongside the riverbank. Sail through the markets and watch locals haggle with buyers. Return to Saigon for two nights at Sheraton Hotel & Towers and a cocktail reception at the rooftop Floor 23.

4 SUN: SAIGON

Travel by coach to Cu Chi Tunnels, constructed under US military bases by Viet Cong during the war, and used both as shelters and to stage surprise attacks. Visit Reunification Palace, History Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office and Dong Khoi Street. Stop at lively Ben Thanh market, then visit the home of Duc Dau for a traditional music performance. Dinner is at the French colonial restaurant, Le Caprice.

5 MON: SAIGON/HOI AN

Head to the airport for your flight to Danang where you will be transferred via China Beach and Marble Mountain to the charming old town of Hoi An, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. Stay at Palm Garden Resort for two nights. Enjoy dinner at Nam Kha Restaurant.

6 TUE: HOI AN

Take a walking tour around the charming narrow streets of Hoi An to see Japanese, French, Chinese and Indian architecture, as well as ancient houses. Watch the preparation of ‘pho’ noodles and enjoy this dish for lunch. Visit the Japanese covered bridge, Chinese communal houses and art galleries. Enjoy a boat ride on the Thu Bon River, then visit Thanh Ha to see locals producing beautiful pottery.

7 WED: HOI AN/HANOI

Transfer to Danang Airport for your flight to Hanoi and spend three nights at the InterContinental Hanoi Westlake Hotel. Lunch at Koto Restaurant, owned by respected Australian-Vietnamese Jimmy Phan who has helped street kids gain work in the hospitality industry. Afterwards go on a cyclo tour through the Old Quarter, ending the evening at the Water Puppet Theatre next to Hoan Kiem Lake.

8 THU: HANOI

Following a morning visit to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, accompany a chef to the local markets before returning to the famous Metropole Cooking School where he will demonstrate the preparation of Vietnamese dishes. Have lunch at Spice Gardens Restaurant before an afternoon tour to Ho Chi Minh’s wooden cottage and One Pillar Pagoda. Visit an art gallery where you will enjoy a drink, and finish with dinner at Vine Restaurant.

9 FRI: HALONG BAY EXCURSION

A full-day at beautiful Halong Bay, one of the natural wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cruise through the emerald green waters past thousands of islands and grottoes rising majestically towards the sky, enjoying a seafood lunch on board.

10 SAT: HANOI/AUSTRALIA
