Today select from two touring options in Amsterdam – visit the Van Gogh Museum, or take a tour of the city’s famous winding canals. Later, rejoin your ship in Utrecht and cruise the Rhine River. Tonight, enjoy the Captain’s Gala Welcome Dinner.

Day 3. Cologne – Koblenz
Arrive in Cologne, Germany’s fourth largest city. Later, during lunch on board, the ship continues along the Rhine past quaint villages and dramatic landscapes to 2,000 year-old Koblenz.

Day 4. Rüdesheim
Cruise through the Rhine Gorge on what is known as the Rhine’s most beautiful stretch. Later, arrive in Rüdesheim, a Rhine Valley wine town. Here, the Winzerexpress mini-train will take you to Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum.

Day 5. Freudenberg, Wertheim, Freedom of Choice Touring
From Freudenberg, travel by coach to Wertheim. Perhaps embark on a guided bicycle tour, take in a glass-blowing demonstration, or go for a paddling tour on the Tauber River. Afterwards, enjoy a tour of medieval Wertheim Castle before a medieval themed evening.

Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Zurich
Welcome to Zurich. Your Scenic Tours Representative will meet you at the airport and transfer* you to your centrally located hotel. Time to relax before meeting up this evening with your fellow travellers and Tour Director over a welcome drink.

Day 2: Zurich – Montreux (FB,D)
An Included guided walking tour of Zurich reveals a contrast between the luxury designer shops and modern buildings on the Bahnhofstrasse and the imposing Romanesque Cathedral which dominates the old town with its twin towers. We leave the financial hub of Switzerland to visit its capital city, Bern. The old city is snugly positioned on a bend of the river Aare and features some beautiful squares and fine examples of decorated facades amongst its cobblestone streets. Our final scenic drive takes us to our destination for tonight, Montreux, which features breathtaking views over Lake Geneva towards the French Alps.

Day 3: Montreux – Zermatt (FB,D)
We start today soaking in the views of terraced vineyards and towering mountain peaks onboard our leisurely cruise across Lake Geneva. We make the short journey along the lake for a visit to Chillon where we enjoy an Included guided tour of the castle and its chilling dungeon. The Castle, nearly 1,000 years old, was home to the Counts of Savoy and made popular by Lord Byron’s poem, the Prisoner of Chillon. We journey along the Rhône valley passing the town of Sion and acres of vineyards before heading into the mountains as we climb the winding road to the village of Tasch. Here we board our cog-wheel train for our final ascent to the traffic-free ski resort of Zermatt, situated in the shadows of the famous Matterhorn, nearly two kilometres above sea level.

Day 4: Zermatt (FB)
Zermatt is located at the north end of a hanging valley with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Choose one of the Included SCENIC FREE CHOICE options: (1) a train ride to Gornergrat which offers spectacular views of the Matterhorn and 29 other Alpine peaks in three countries; or (2) A guided hike through the picturesque mountain scenery.
Day 5: Zermatt – St. Moritz (FB,D)
This morning we farewell Zermatt and continue along the scenic Simplon Pass into Italy. We reach Lake Maggiore to savour the spectacular views of its tranquil waters and the Borromean Islands from gorgeous Stresa. There is time to wander the lakeside resort amongst stunning villas and colourful gardens. We wind our way along the shores of Lake Como and climb back into the Swiss Alps. We stop at the botanical gardens of the Villa Carlotta and take a private boat to the Italian village of Bellaggio. Enjoy free time to explore the narrow allies and visit the quaint little shops and restaurants. Crossing the Engadine plateau with its numerous lakes, we arrive in St. Moritz. Initially known for its curative mineral springs, St. Moritz is now a chic and exclusive international resort.

Day 6: St. Moritz – Lucerne (FB,HD)
After breakfast we board the Glacier Express for possibly the world’s most breathtaking mountain rail journey. We journey past towering peaks with green valleys far below through the Albula Pass and over the impressive Landwasser viaduct to Andermatt where we join our coach and driver. As we continue on our journey we stop to see how the rural Swiss live with a real life farm visit. Gain a personal cultural experience as we chat with the locals while tempting your taste buds with a cheese tasting and home made apple juice. Then it’s only a short drive along the banks of Lake Lucerne to the picturesque city of the same name, located within sight of the towering peaks of Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus. Tonight we enjoy a traditional folklore show as we savour a highlight meal of traditional Swiss fondue.

With our local guide we stroll to the famous Lion Monument, a haunting memorial to the gallant Swiss Guard, who was defeated while defending the Tuilieries Palace in Paris during the French Revolution in 1792. Then we enjoy a walking tour of the old town and cross the medieval Chapel Bridge to the ornate Jesuit Church. Enjoy a guided cruise on Lucerne’s gorgeous lake en-route to the quaint village of Vitznau. Here we join the oldest cogwheel train in Switzerland for a breathtaking ascent of Mount Rigi, known as ‘the Queen of the Mountains’. Savour the incredible scenery from the summit where you have a breathtaking panoramic view of the Alps.
Day 8: Lucerne – Innsbruck (FB,D)
Our first destination today is Vaduz, capital of the tiny tax haven of Liechtenstein, bordered entirely by Switzerland and Austria and just 160 square kilometres in size. We stop at Swarovski World, a museum built marking the 100 year anniversary of the company, where you will be amazed by the Crystal sculptures. We make the short trip to Innsbruck, capital of the Austrian Tyrol. This delightful town on the Inn River is sandwiched between towering mountain ranges to the north and south and prospered due to its strategic position at the head of the Brenner Pass to Italy. We visit the impressive baroque Wilten Basilica, the recently built ski-jump and of course the old town including the famous Golden Roof, built to cover the Emperor in 1500.

Day 9: Innsbruck – Munich (FB,HD)
On route to Germany we visit the pretty Austrian town of Seefeld, where SCENIC ENRICH we enjoy a horse-drawn carriage trip amongst the woods and meadows after indulging in apple strudel and coffee at a local inn. Astonishing scenery awaits as we drive through towering peaks into Bavarian Germany, arriving in Schwangau to see the majestic spires of Neuschwanstein Castle piercing through woods on the nearby mountainside. We board our horse and carriage and are driven up to the Castle entrance, where we enjoy an Included guided tour of the ornately carved and decorated apartments of ‘Mad’ King Ludwig Descending the mountain, there is time to enjoy Schwangau before we pass beautifully painted chalets and alpine pastures en-route to the village of Oberammergau, site of the Passion Play which has taken place every 10 years since 1634. We continue along the famous Romantic road before reaching the Bavarian capital, Munich. SCENIC ENRICH This evening we say ‘prost’ as we dine at the Brauhaus Zum Franziskaner, the oldest privately owned brewery in Munich, in operation since 1363.

On our Included guided walking tour we visit the heart of old Munich, the Marienplatz, a large open square with the Marien column in the centre, where we see the famous Glockenspiel on the Town Hall play. Radiating from the Marienplatz are gorgeous examples of Romanesque and Baroque churches including the Peterskirche and Frauenkirche. At the nearby victuals market, which has been operating for 100 years, local delicacies and souvenirs are available. Choose one of the Included SCENIC FREE CHOICE options: (1) BMW world showcasing its wide collections of cars and designs; or (2) head to nearby Dachau concentration camp for chilling reminders of the events of World War II.
Day 11: Munich – Salzburg (FB,HD)
On our morning drive we visit Hitler’s favourite summer resort, perched atop a mountain in the Berchtesgaden National Park. The scenery from the terrace of his Eagles Nest is simply stunning. We continue our journey to Salzburg, famous for its onion shaped domes and charming courtyards all dwarfed by the imposing fortress. The history and sights of this baroque city are revealed during an Included guided walking tour of the atmospheric old town which will include the mighty cathedral, Mozart’s birthplace and many of the locations used during the filming of ‘The Sound of Music’, such as the Mirabell Palace and gardens. Tonight we celebrate a Highlight Dinner at the famous Stiftkeller St Peter. Established by Benedictine Monks in AD 803, it is the oldest restaurant in Austria and has had guests such as Charlemagne and Christopher Columbus dine here throughout history.

Day 12: Salzburg – Vienna (FB,D)
Today we venture into the Salzkammergut to tour the region made famous by ‘The Sound of Music’, with its high lush meadows, snow covered mountains and crystal-clear lakes. We stop in the town of Mondsee on the similarly named lake to take pictures of the church where Maria was married to Captain Von Trapp in the film.

Day 13: Vienna (FB,HD)
With a local guide we visit the city’s outstanding monuments to Imperial glory. We take a drive along the Ringstrasse to absorb such sights as the Votive Church, the City Hall, the Stadtpark with its famous statue of Johann Strauss, the Opera House and the elegant, baroque church of St. Charles Borromeo. Then we visit the Silver Collection in the Hofburg museum to be spellbound by the opulence and splendour of imperial life as we observe silverware once owned by the Habsburg dynasty. Later we visit one of the world’s most beautiful Palaces – the entrancing Schönbrunn Palace – favourite residence of the Empress Maria Theresa. SCENIC ENRICH Tonight, enjoy a fitting conclusion to our tour; a concert of Classical music at the Kursalon, a beautiful Italian Renaissance Palace, followed by dinner.

Day 1: London
Welcome to London. You will be met at Heathrow Airport by your Scenic Tours Representative and transferred* to your centrally located hotel. Meet up this evening with your Tour Director and fellow travellers over a welcome drink.

We join our guide for an Included sightseeing tour of London. SCENIC FREE CHOICE choose from the following Included tours: (1) a ‘flight’ on the spectacular London Eye; or (2) a guided tour of Westminster Abbey; or (3) a visit to Churchill’s underground Cabinet War Rooms. SCENIC ENRICH This afternoon we enjoy a scenic cruise on the River Thames past the Tower of London and Tower Bridge to historic Greenwich for our welcome dinner at The Trafalgar Tavern, one of London’s last authentic pubs.
Day 3: London – Bath (FB,D)
Our first stop is at the ancient cathedral city of Salisbury. From here we visit one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world, Stonehenge. Our day ends in the beautiful city of Bath, founded around naturally-occurring hot springs where the Romans built baths and a temple.

Day 4: Bath – Cardiff (FB,D)
Appreciate Bath on an Included open top bus tour. Our journey includes the impressive Georgian buildings along the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge. We finish with a visit to the Roman Baths. We then travel to Bristol, home to Britain’s first steel hulled ship, the SS Great Britain, which spent its life transporting emigrants to America and the colonies in Australia. Late this afternoon we cross into Wales and spend the night in Cardiff.

Day 5: Cardiff – Waterford (FB,D)
Cardiff has been transformed in recent years and on our orientation tour we see the Millennium Stadium, the 2,000-year-old castle, the Welsh National Assembly Building and the futuristic Millennium Centre before travelling through the rolling green countryside of Wales. We board a ferry and cross the Irish Sea to Rosslare in Ireland before continuing to Waterford.

Day 6: Waterford – Killarney (FB,D)
Our first destination today is Ireland’s oldest city Waterford. This morning we enjoy an Included guided tour of the city made famous for its crystal. We continue on to Midleton for a tour and tasting at Jameson’s Irish Whiskey Distillery. This afternoon we visit Blarney Castle and kiss the famous stone to receive the gift of the gab before arriving in Killarney.

Today experience a memorable journey – the Ring of Kerry. Wander the pretty town of Sneem, before enjoying a jaunting car ride – a traditional pony and trap. Journey back to Killarney. Day 8: Killarney – Athlone (FB,D)
This morning we visit Bunratty Folk Park, where 19th century Irish rural and urban life is recreated in the form of a local village. We then drive along the spectacular Atlantic coastline of the Cliffs of Moher before heading inland to the quaint town of Athlone.

Day 9: Athlone – Dublin (FB,HD)
This morning we briefly explore this historic town before we visit the 10th century built Clonmacnoise. We continue to the capital city of Ireland, Dublin. This evening we dine at Johnnie Fox’s, an authentic pub where we enjoy a Hooley show featuring traditional music and dancing.

During the next two days we experience the majesty of the Scottish Highlands. We begin with a drive through stunning scenery as we pass Loch Lomond before continuing through Glencoe. We journey past Loch Linnhe to Loch Ness and visit the romantic ruins of Urquhart Castle. The famous monster Nessie was allegedly spotted near here, so keep an eye out! We venture deep into the Highlands, where our hotel for the next two nights is situated.

We head through the Grampians to our first destination this morning, Cawdor Castle. On our Included tour we shall learn of the Castle’s links to Shakespeare’s play Macbeth. Welcome to Paris. You will be met at Charles De Gaulle airport and transferred* to your centrally located hotel. This afternoon we visit the world’s largest museum, the Louvre, where our Louvre-trained art expert will show us many famous works including the Mona Lisa. This morning we enjoy an Included orientation trip around the capital, where we’ll get to see the famous landmarks, travel up the Champs Elysée to the Arc de Triomphe, drive along the left bank of the Seine to the Hotel des Invalides and finally on to Saint Germain and the Latin Quarter. There is some time at leisure to enjoy the sights and sounds of this romantic city before we explore the bohemian centre of Paris, Montmartre, where the artist’s quarter and the Sacre Coeur Basilica will be reached by a funicular to the top of Montmartre Hill. We journey to the Eiffel Tower and ascend to the second level for unforgettable views. It’s a short walk to our spectacular dinner venue, 58 Tour Eiffel, just one floor below, where we dine above the Paris skyline. En-route back to our hotel we enjoy a short tour to see the city landmarks illuminated at night.

A bubbly start to the day awaits in the town of Reims, where some of the finest champagnes in the world are produced. SCENIC ENRICH We stop at one of France’s finest champagne houses, Taittingers, where we shall sample the local vintages amongst their atmospheric underground caves. There is time to discover this historic town before our journey continues through the vineyards of Burgundy to the medieval town of Dijon. On arrival we will take a short stroll of the old town, which will highlight days of past glory as we see the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy.

We depart Dijon and drive along the famous Côte d’Or. We shall pass Nuits St Georges and Gevrey Chambertin on our way to Beaune where we take a brief orientation tour of this historic town, followed by wine tasting at the famous Bouchard Aîné and Fils winery, an institution in Burgundy for 250 years. We then enjoy a highlight lunch of Burgundy’s finest cuisine at the renowned Hostellerie Le Cedre. After a short stop in Bourg-en-Bresse to see the ornately ornamented Monastery of Brou, we ascend the French Alps to our hotel.

We drive through the pretty Luberon National Park before arriving in Avignon, set on the banks of the Rhône River and former residence of seven popes during the religious schism of the 14th century.

We continue on to Arles, founded in the 7th century BC, where we visit the still used Roman arena with our local guide. The major sites are integrated amongst the town buildings, creating a unique blend of past and present. We follow the steps of Vincent Van Gogh, who spent over a year creating many of his finest works in Arles. Then across the Camargue National Park to Europe’s largest remaining fortified city, Carcassonne. Our hotel is situated among the medieval towers and turrets of this fairy-tale setting.

The first stop today is at the stunning Château de Chenonceau, resplendent with numerous arches, buttresses and towers set in magnificent gardens. The history alone of the chateau is amazing. Then on to the delightful market town of Amboise where, as part of our guided visit, we will see Leonardo da Vinci’s tomb in the gardens of the imposing castle. We will also visit Clos Lucé, the manor house in which the great artist lived, and wander the narrow streets which contain many medieval timbered houses. We continue our scenic journey through the Loire Valley to the plain of La Beauce and soon arrive in the cathedral city of Chartres. We shall see the UNESCO listed cathedral, which was started in 1145 and marks the high point of French Gothic art. After a brief journey a highlight awaits as we enjoy a guided visit of the famous Palace of Versailles. The official residence of the Kings of France from 1682 until the French Revolution was seen as a symbol of absolute monarchy. We return to Paris where tonight we enjoy a farewell dinner to France in a local Brasserie.

We then continue our spectacular drive south along the Dalmatian coast to Split, site of the former Palace of the Emperor Diocletian. Today, the Palace constitutes the inner core of this bustling port city and is inhabited with shops and market squares.

This morning we join a local guide for our Included city tour, which will reveal the remains of the massive Imperial Palace of Diocletian, constructed from 293 AD, primarily as a retirement home. The walled old town of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World heritage site and has remained largely unchanged since medieval times. Trogir’s medieval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings, churches and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. One of Europe’s most picturesque and iconic settings is our destination today – Lake Bled, formed after a glacier retreat and overlooked by the famous Bled Castle. SCENIC ENRICH We step back in time and take a traditional wooden ‘Pletna’ boat to the stunningly beautiful island in the lake and visit the historic Church of St Mary with its wishing well – you may wish to ring the bell for good luck. Following a short drive through Triglav National Park we have time to relax and witness Slovenia’s largest glacial lake, Lake Bohinj, before returning to Bled. Today we will visit Slovenia’s greatest tourist site – the Karst Caves at Postojna. A mini-train will take us underground through a series of beautiful halls adorned with stalagmites and stalagtites, unique shapes that will leave you spellbound. Then on to Lipica stud farm, established for the Holy Roman Empire’s benefit in 1580, where we see the beautiful white Lipizzaner horses that perform dressage at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. We cross the Italian border and pass the cosmopolitan port city of Trieste, arriving this afternoon in magnificent Venice – the most unique city in the world! We cruise up the Grand Canal by private motor launch past ornate and gilded Palazzos and Palladian churches to our superbly located hotel.

Welcome to Amsterdam, a fascinating and compact city of picturesque canals. Your Scenic Tours Representative will personally greet you at the airport and arrange your transfer*. Day 2: Arnhem – Dordrecht (FB,L,D)
After sailing through the night we disembark our cruise in Arnhem. Our Included tour today visits The Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’. The museum pays tribute to The Battle of Arnhem, a crucial part of Operation Market Garden, which took place in September 1944. After heavy fighting the Allied Forces eventually had to withdraw because of the heavy German counterattacks. Arnhem’s crucial role in the last days of WWII was recreated in the movie “A Bridge Too Far”. We cruise to Historic Dordrecht and dock in the heart of this charming port area.
Day 3: Antwerp, Belgium (FB,L,D)
We continue to cruise through to Belgium to Antwerp, a compact seaport city buzzing with world class shopping in fashion houses and galleries. The baroque master painter Rubens lived here, and today it’s the centre of the global diamond trade. Your Included sightseeing takes you to heritage listed monuments, city hall and the Cathedral of Our Lady. With free time this afternoon why not sample some of Belgium’s famous beer and the local favourite – a pot of mussels with fries and mayonnaise before reboarding your cruise.
Day 4: Ghent (FB,L,D)
Ghent has flourished since medieval times and is now a busy port city, famous for its flower exports. You’ll enjoy an Included walking tour of the city centre to admire well-preserved Flemish architecture, St. Bavo’s Cathedral which was consecrated in the 10th century, and the gothic Castle of the Counts. This afternoon perhaps you could visit “The Venice of the North” Bruges where you can wonder this fascinating little city with its pretty canals and intimate cobbled stone streets (at own expense). Appreciate the incredible value as you savour your discoveries tonight perhaps over an intimate dinner at the exclusive Portobello’s fine dining restaurant.
Day 5: Middleburg – Delta Works (FB,L,D)
We continue to cruise on board your Scenic ‘Space-Ship’ to the city of Middleburg, first inhabited in the 9th century as a fortified town to guard against Viking raids. Despite heavy bombings during WWII, much of the city’s architecture has been saved and can be seen in the medieval abbey and merchant warehouses that line the canals in our Included tour this morning. This afternoon you will be witness to one of the most intriguing civil engineering constructions ever built. The Delta Works are an engineering feat consisting of a complex series of dams and storm barriers built to protect the population of the lowlands of the Delta plain from treacherous floods. On our Included tour we learn about the Delta project as a whole followed by a guide through the Storm Surge Barrier. As most of Zeeland in the Netherlands is at or under sea level the storm surge barrier has reduced the risk of flooding to less than once in 4000 years. Tonight step back in time as our entertainment pays tribute to its Dutch Heritage, showcasing authentic costumes and jewellery of years gone by.
Day 6: Rotterdam – Keukenhof Gardens (FB,L,D)
Sailing back through the Netherlands we dock in Europe’s largest port, Rotterdam. Completely rebuilt after the destruction of WWII, Rotterdam is now a centre for cutting-edge architecture and museums housing collections dating from the Middle Ages. Today’s highlight is a guided visit to Keukenhof Gardens which have been delighting and inspiring visitors for over 60 years with its millions of flowering tulips, intricate flower displays and expansive sculpture garden. From here we cruise by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kinderdijk with its delightful row of windmills. A great photo opportunity not to be missed!
Day 7: Amsterdam – Volendam, Edam (FB,L,D)
Docking back in Amsterdam today choose from the one of the following Included SCENIC FREE CHOICE options: (1) a guided tour of Anne Frank House, where you will visit the house where the family hid during World War II; or (2) A sightseeing canal cruise through the cities 17th century architecture in a glass-top boat; or (3) An excursion to The Hague, government central of The Netherlands. Cruise past Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers before reaching the Lorelei rock. Soaring some 120 metres, legend has it that the Rhine maidens lured navigators of this river to their dooms with their alluring singing. Day 16: Vienna (FB,L,D)
Today offers three Included SCENIC FREE CHOICE tours to choose from: (1) A fabulous guided tour of Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer palace of the Hapsburgs; or (2) Visit the State Opera House before enjoying coffee and cake in a famous Viennese café; or (3) take a guided excursion to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava. This afternoon as we set sail for Hungary relax in one the many viewing areas onboard.
Day 17: Budapest (FB,L,D)
Budapest is one of Eastern Europe’s most ancient cities. Choose from one of the following Included SCENIC FREE CHOICE tours: (1) Guided City tour of both Buda and Pest highlighting the cites finest attractions; or (2) Relax in the Thermal Baths and Spa; or (3) Relive the history of Hungary’s Communist past and pay tribute to its regime victims at the Museum and Memorial Park dedicated to this era. Tonight celebrate with Folklore music before a wonderful dinner.
Day 18: Budapest – Prague (FB)
After breakfast this morning we journey by coach to Prague, one of the truly magical cities of Europe. Situated on the bank of River Vltava in central Bohemia, the beautiful city of Prague is rich in history and is home to some of the world’s most pristine and varied collections of architecture.

Day 19: Prague (FB,HD)
Today join our local guide on your Included sightseeing tour through the old town. We start our tour at the top of the towering Prague Castle before making our way down the cobbled stone streets to such sights as the cathedral of St Vitus. After our Included visit of the cathedral we walk across the Castle courtyards to the Little Quarter over the Charles Bridge. One of the most familiar sights in Prague, the Charles Bridge was commissioned in 1357 by Charles IV after the Judith Bridge was destroyed by floods. After a relaxing Coffee and Cake we continue our guided tour to the Old Town where we conclude our tour at the foot of the Astronomical clock. This evening be enthralled by a typical Czech highlight dinner and entertainment.
Day 20: Prague (FB)
Enjoy exploring this magnificent city at your leisure where your Tour Director is on hand to help plan your day. You may wish to visit the Old Jewish Cemetery and Gothic Synagogue, built around 1270 or visit one of the many museums Prague has to offer.
Day 21: Prague (FB)
After breakfast this morning you will be transferred* by your Scenic Tours Representative to Prague International Airport for your onward or homebound flight.
