|
| Day 2 : Hells Canyon by Jet Boat

We’ll watch for Bighorn sheep and hawks throughout the day. After our excursion we’ll cruise the Snake River, passing through our first lock and dam called Lower Granite. After dinner our Expedition Leader will provide a brief orientation to the journey.
|
| Day 3 : The Palouse Canyon
We’ll pass through the Little Goose lock and dam first thing this morning then anchor at the mouth of the Palouse River. The kayaks and skiff will be lowered for an up-close exploration of the pristine and lovely Palouse canyon. Watch for hundreds of cliff swallows that nest on the canyon walls, and for Northern harriers and osprey hovering above the still waters as they hunt.
|
| Day 4 : Walla Walla Appellation
Travel by executive coach to the Walla Walla appellation. Tour L’Ecole Nº 41, an unusual winery located in an historic 1915 Frenchtown schoolhouse. Join your wine “scholar” on a private tour and tasting of prized reserve wines such as an Estate Syrah from the wineries acclaimed partner, Seven Hills Vineyard. As you sip vibrant, aromatic wines surrounded by nostalgic remnants of school classes of long ago, you’ll encounter “high marks” with their wine reviews consistently scoring in the 90’s. A short distance away is Northstar, a unique destination winery known for their ultra-premium Merlot wines. Learn about their handcrafted limited production award-winning reserve wines during a private tasting and wine production tour. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to blend your own complex Merlot creation under the tutelage of the world-class winemakers. After a specially prepared lunch, savor some of the Walla Walla Appellation’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as you stroll the landscaped gardens of Basel Cellars Estate Winery. Housed in a subterranean structure, the wine-making facilities are modeled after the famous Chateau Mouton Rothschild in the Pauillac Appellation of Bordeaux, France. Upon returning to the yacht, relax on deck as we cruise along the rolling Columbia River. Enjoy the hot tub, read a book, or join the Captain on the bridge to watch the sunset.
|
| Day 5 : Red Mountain and Yakima Valley Appellation
The next two days will focus primarily on winery tours and tastings. Enjoy breakfast onboard the Safari Explorer before traveling to Hedges Family Estate Winery. The family estate’s Chateau is known for their Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy an exclusive tasting in the estate’s private family library. Later, explore the adjacent vineyard and European-styled courtyard garden. At the conclusion of the tour, travel a short distance to Terra Blanca Winery and Estate Vineyard. Join the winemaker for an exclusive tour before enjoying a romantic luncheon in the caves of this bold Tuscany-style winery. Upon exiting the winery’s caves, stroll the cobbled walkways to explore the meticulously landscaped grounds and reflecting lake. Later this afternoon, rejoin the Safari Explorer for sunset cruising along the Columbia River. To end the day of sampling this region’s remarkable wines, relax with a glass of fine wine in-hand during a quiet dinner or afterwards in the yacht’s cozy salon.
|
| Day 6 : Maryhill Museum and Winery/ Columbia Gorge Appellation
Today’s cruise itinerary cruises through a stretch of wilderness which is home to northern harriers, cliff swallows, osprey, mule deer and coyotes before transiting another series of locks and dams. First we’ll make our way through the John Day Lock and Dam, then we’ll anchor and visit Maryhill Museum followed by a visit to the Maryhill Winery. The museum’s collections are housed in a castle-like chateau situated on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. The museum offers an eclectic collection of Native arts, European paintings and the Queen of Romania’s personal effects. Our winery visit will include a tasting from a special tasting list. Back onboard the Safari Explorer we’ll then pass through The Dalles Lock and Dam. After dinner take the opportunity to relax in the hot tub, sauna or with a complimentary massage.
|
| Day 7 : Hood River, Bonneville Dam and Columbia Gorge
This morning, we’ll make a port call at Hood River, the windsurfing capital of the world, to tour the Full Sail Brewing Co.’s local brewery and browse the boutique shops. Back onboard, join your Expedition Leader on deck as we enter the striking Columbia River Gorge. This spectacular canyon cuts the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range and is a designated National Scenic Area. We’ll leave the yacht for a private tour of the impressive Bonneville Dam, the last dam on the Columbia River as you head west towards the Pacific Ocean. View the massive turbines that produce enormous amounts of hydropower, and step outside to view the fish ladder. After tonight’s Farewell Dinner the Expedition Leader will present a slideshow from our week-long journey.
|
| Day 8 : A Fond Farewell, Clear Creek Distillery
Your crew serves another excellent breakfast this morning before bidding you “adieu.” At 9:00 am you’ll board a coach for a transfer to the Portland, Oregon, airport for your connections home. Daily Itinerary – Westbound – Lewiston to Portland
| Day 1 : Board the Safari Explorer
Welcome! You will be met at the airport this afternoon and transferred to the Safari Explorer. The crew greets you with champagne and smiles, and we’ll enjoy a short dinner cruise along the canyons of the Snake and Clearwater rivers. This evening a local historian joins us in the salon for an informative presentation on the area.
|
| Day 2 : Hells Canyon by Jet Boat
After breakfast this morning we’ll transfer to a jet boat for an invigorating ride into Hells Canyon. Vertical cliffs carved by the river now hem in the rushing waters that we travel upon, and we’ll watch some of the most dramatic scenery unfold as we jet upriver. We’ll watch for big horn sheep and hawks throughout the day. After our excursion we’ll cruise the Snake River, passing through our first lock and dam called Lower Granite.
|
| Day 4 : Birding , Rivers and Historical Confluence
Today we’ll transit through the McNary Dam locks. The McNary Dam encompasses an impressive wildlife region. Keep your eyes peeled and binoculars in hand to see some of the 212 species of migratory birds that rest here en route through the Pacific Fly-way: snow geese, tundra swans, canvasbacks, ring-necked ducks, redheads and many others. Later we pass by Sacajawea State Park and learn about the Lewis and Clark Expedition’s travails and triumphs through this river confluence area.
|
| Day 5 : The Washington Wine Country
The fastest wine-growing region in the U.S. is in eastern Washington, and today we’ll see why. With North Star and L’Ecole No. 41 on our itinerary, our “taste of Washington” will be most enjoyable. We’ll return to the yacht after our tours and tastings, and have time to relax onboard before dinner.
|
| Day 6 : Cruising the Columbia River
The vast eastern plains give way to the flanks of the Cascade Mountain Range as we cruise west today. Watch as the banks of the river go from gentle and low-lying to cliffs rising hundreds of feet high beside us. The wind and weather shifts from arid to temperate as we come closer to the Pacific Ocean. We’ll stop in Hood River (the windsurfing capital of the world) this afternoon where we’ll have time to browse the boutique shops or tour the local brew pub. We’ll stay dockside here tonight, so take your time and enjoy the town.
|
| Day 7 : Columbia Gorge and Bonneville Dam
This morning we’ll cruise through the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. The outside decks provide the best views of this beautiful passage. At Bradford Island we’ll step ashore for a guided tour of Bonneville Lock and Dam, the final lock on our journey. We’ll visit the power station and fish ladders, learning more about how this engineering marvel fits into the local environment and community. This evening we’ll enjoy a festive Farewell Dinner as we drop anchor in a quiet channel for the night.
|
| Day 8 : A Fond Farewell
Your crew serves another excellent breakfast this morning before bidding you “adieu.” At 9:00 am you’ll be transferred to the Portland airport for connections home.

About the American Safari Cruise Experience
American Safari Cruises – The Famed Inside Passage – Fall 2010
The Famed Inside Passage – Fall 2010
Overview
15 Days/14 Nights — Juneau, Alaska to Seattle, Washington
Experience the full length of the West Coast of North America’s Inside Passage without the open ocean, but with shores ever-so-tight to the sides of your yacht for most of the 900 nautical miles between Seattle and Juneau. Embrace exhilarating closeness to snow-capped mountains, wildlife and birds far too numerous to keep count, waterfalls, tree-lined narrow passageways and surprises at just about every “gunkholing” turn.
Choose May or September — either is an excellent time for cruising along British Columbia’s coast and Alaska’s Inside Passage. At these times of the year the foliage is vivid, there are fewer boats and people, and bears and other animals are likely foraging along the shoreline. Then make a second choice of the yacht that best fits you among the Safari Explorer, Safari Quest or Safari Spirit. The value is extraordinary and the daily encounters with nature are astounding!
Daily Itinerary – Safari Quest
| Day 1 : Sail from Juneau, Alaska
You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the Safari Spirit where your crew greets you with champagne and hors d’oeuvres. We’ll cruise north toward our serene anchorage this evening.
|
| Day 2 – 3 : Glacier Bay National Park
One of America’s crown-jewel national parks will be ours to explore and marvel at for the next two days. Tidewater glaciers sweep like rivers of ice down massive mountain valleys, terminating before us in the waters of Glacier Bay. If conditions permit, we’ll lower the inflatable and weave among the icebergs that have fallen from the face of the glaciers. We’ll enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings paddling our kayaks in the quiet of this majestic wilderness. And what will we find? Quite possibly we’ll see puffins, sea lions, mountain goats, bears, moose, eagles, and scenery more spectacular than any place on earth.
|
| Days 4 – 5 : Fjords and Hot Springs
We’ll spend these two days in the wildest, most pristine corners of Alaska. We’ll paddle our kayaks in remote fjords, hike to natural hotsprings, wander through the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska, and explore some of the most scenic, hidden gems one can find in the inside passage.
|
| Day 6 : Petersburg – “Little Norway”
Today we make a port stop to the quaint Norwegian-style fishing village of Petersburg. Once back onboard, our journey leads us through the ever-so-narrow Wrangell Narrows, a passage that’s been dubbed “Christmas Tree Lane” for the red and green navigational markers that mark the route. Home to rich salmon runs
|
| Days 7 – 8 : Alaskan Waterways
Remote waterways, hidden villages, and wilderness cruising will be our focus today. We’ll tour Chief Shakes Island’s Tlingit tribal house as we call at the true Alaskan town of Wrangell. Continuing on our cruise, keep an eye out for seals and porpoise on our way to a silent, hidden cut between two islands called Canoe Pass. We’ll drop the kayaks for those wanting to use their own power to take advantage of the extremely close-in shores.Later, we’ll poke into Meyer’s Chuck. Tucked behind a fortress of broken islands, Meyer’s Chuck lies undetected by most that pass this way.We will pull in for a look at this surprising community made up of a handful of fishermen, artists and bush pilots.Ê Saunter up the cedar-planked boardwalks that are the “streets” of the village, and meet the locals. We will spend the night at anchor in a remote cove. There, we will have time for investigating our surroundings by kayak or inflatable with your Expedition Leaders/Naturalists.
|
| Day 9 : Ketchikan, Alaska
Discover the rich, cultural heritage of Alaska’s Tlingit Indians on a guided tour or Saxman Totem Village with local village resident Joe Williams. Before we depart, take time to browse shops or stroll along Creek Street where there’s often a good dose of local color to be found.
|
| Day 10 : Prince Rupert, British Columbia
Prince Rupert is British Columbia’s northernmost port along our route. Here, a historic sightseeing and museum tour introduces us to this scenic community. After our visit we’ll begin our exploration of the fjords along the northern B.C. coast, anchoring in a quiet cove this evening.
|
| Day 11 – 13 : Exploring the Canadian Inside Passage
Search for orca whales, seals, sea lions and bears. Our Expedition Leader will lead nature hikes and kayaking excursions, and we’ll enjoy a First Nations dance performance in a cedar-planked big house. We’ll also step ashore with Naturalists from Raincoast Conservation Society who will tell us about local wildlife and fisheries studies, including little known details on rainforest wolves and the mysterious Spirit bear.
|
| Day 14 : The Sun Juan Islands and Friday Harbour
We’ll arrive in US waters today; all eyes open for orca whales! The misty San Juan Islands greet us this morning. Settle into the rhythm of the sea as we leave our busy lives behind. Beautiful forested islands dot the seascape where we wind through the untouched islands in the San Juan’s. Today we’ll visit the port of Friday Harbor. Here you’ll enjoy time at leisure to stroll through the town’s many intriguing boutiques and shops, or perhaps the Whale Museum. To top off our trip, we’ll celebrate and reminisce together during our festive Farewell dinner.
|
| Day 15 : Disembark in Seattle, Washington
During breakfast we’ll pass through the Hiram-Chittenden Locks and dock at Seattle’s Historic Fishermen’s Terminal for a 9:00 am disembarkation. A transfer to the Seattle airport or local hotel is included. Safe travels to all!

About the American Experience
American Safari Cruises – Discoverers’ Glacier Country 2010 Cruise

Discoverers’ Glacier Country 2010
Overview
8 Days/7 Nights — Roundtrip Juneau, Alaska
In Southeast Alaska, our yachts meander through the largest national forest in the United States – home to grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, bald eagles and wolves. On our way to view Alaska’s massive glaciers, we enter some of the world’s deepest fjords to hike and kayak while other vessels’ guests stay shipside.
In the still of the evening, watch bears ambling along wild shorelines. Everywhere in the swirling currents below, the world’s largest mammals, the great whales, forage in bountiful waters along the sheltered coastline. We meet Alaska and its wildlife at eye level for a vacation of a lifetime!
Daily Itinerary
| Day 1: Arrive in Juneau, EmbarkationUpon arrival you will be transferred from the airport to board the yacht. Your crew greets you with champagne and smiles, and we’ll cruise to a secluded wilderness anchorage this evening. |
| Day 2: Ford’s Terror and Endicott ArmCliff-walled fjords sliced into the mountainous mainland are on tap today as we tuck into an area widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in all of Alaska. Snow gleams on mountaintops high overhead, as bears amble on the shoreline and mountain goats cling to impossibly precarious perches. Seemingly every few hundred yards another sparkling waterfall tumbles down the cliffs. Enjoy a skiff ride at Ford’s Terror, named after an early mariner who was somewhat taken aback when a waterfall appeared at the turn of the tide where none had been visible at high tide. We’ll anchor overnight at Taku Harbor. Before retiring for the evening enjoy the wilderness solitude while relaxing in the upper deck hot tub or enjoy a nightcap with your fellow yachtmates in the salon. |
| Day 3: Admiralty Island – BearsWe’ll tuck into Gambier Bay, a large, island-speckled body of water on the south coast of Admiralty Island National Monument. We’ll drop the kayaks and launch the skiff for up-close exploration of this cool forested bay. Never logged, the thick evergreen forest crowds right down to the gravel beaches. Here is an outstanding opportunity to spot the huge brown or grizzly bears for which Admiralty Island is famous. At low tide they’re right down on the beaches, seeking a shellfish supper. Once again under way, we’ll watch for humpback whales before anchoring at Wood Spit for more exploration by kayak and skiff. |
| Day 4: Frederick Sound and Sea LionsToday we’ll cruise around wilderness Admiralty Island to more prime humpback-viewing waters in Frederick Sound. We’ll take time for skiff operations and sea kayaking in Saginaw Bay, and cruise up-close to a sea lion colony at the Brothers Islands. Tonight we’ll anchor in a remote and picturesque bay. |
| Day 5: Icy StraitDuring today’s ultimate day of exploration, there’s no agenda to follow except to experience every moment scouring the nutrient-rich waters in search for humpbacks, porpoise, sea lions and other wildlife. Marvel at the grand scenery of the Alaskan wilderness as our crew expertly guides us through those “not in the guide book” areas that only the locals know. Join the Captain on the bridge or out on deck in search for marine mammals. Late afternoon, we’ll have the opportunity to drop the skiffs and kayaks to further explore the shoreline of a remote bay. The afternoon and evening will be spent at Point Adolphus, Alaska’s most famous humpback whale feeding area. Be on the watch for the telltale blow of humpback whales as we cruise through Icy Strait. Before retiring for the evening enjoy the wilderness solitude while relaxing in the upper deck hot tub or enjoy a nightcap with your fellow yachtmates in the salon. |
| Day 6 – 7: Glacier Bay National ParkOver the two days in the park we’ll travel nearly 60 miles cruising up-bay to Grand Pacific and Margerie Glaciers, which frequently calve huge icebergs into the bay. If conditions permit, we’ll lower the inflatable and weave among the icebergs that have fallen from the face of the glaciers. We’ll enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings paddling our kayaks in the quiet of this majestic wilderness. And what will we find? Here in the bay there are puffins and sea lions, mountain goats and bears, moose, eagles, and scenery more spectacular than any place on Earth. Glacier Bay is at its best when explored by small groups on a nimble yacht over the course of two days to hike and kayak inside the bay and wilderness areas.
On our last evening together, we’ll enjoy a festive Captain’s Farewell Dinner followed by a slideshow presentation in the salon by the Expedition Leader recapping our week-long journey. |
| Day 8: Disembark in JuneauTransfer to the airport or hotel. |
