Day 2. Cairo Sightseeing

Start at the famous Museum of Egyptian Antiquities and admire the riches of King Tutankhamen’s tomb. After lunch, tour the Old City of Cairo and continue to the Citadel of Saladin and Mohammed Ali Mosque, before visiting the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar.

Day 3. Memphis, Sakkara, Pyramids and Sphinx Excursion

Travel to Memphis and see the statue of Ramesses II and a temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor. Continue to Sakkara, containing some 80 pyramids and hundreds of tombs. Later drive to the Giza Plateau, home of the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, carved almost entirely from one piece of limestone, before returning to Cairo.

Day 4. Cairo – Luxor, Embark Ship

Early this morning, transfer to the airport for the flight to Luxor. Upon arrival board your ship. Luxor became the capital of the New Kingdom around 1500 BC and developed into a major trading centre with luxurious palaces and massive temples. Here, tour the temples of Luxor and Karnak. Then tonight, after dinner, take in a spectacular sound and light show at Karnak Temple on the River Nile.

Day 5. Luxor – West Bank and Valley of the Kings – Esna

Take a boat to the West Bank of the Nile River and pass through the ancient town of Thebes to the Valley of the Kings. Here the tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered in 1922. Continue to Deir-el-Bahari, Queen Hatshepsut’s temple. Stop at the Colossi of Memnon then cruise to Esna and watch rural life unfold in a very similar way to ancient Egyptian times. Tonight enjoy an Egyptology lecture.

Day 6. Edfu – Kom Ombo

In Edfu, take a horse carriage to the Temple of Horus, Egypt’s best preserved temple. Continue to the Temple of Kom Ombo, set on a hill overlooking the Nile. The ship moors overnight in Kom Ombo.

Day 7. Aswan – Philae Temple

Today explore the Nile in a felucca sailboat. Admire Elephantine Island, the Botanical Garden and the Aga Khan Mausoleum, then visit Philae Temple. The construction of Aswan’s High Dam would have flooded Philae Island, so the temple was dismantled and moved to Angilika Island.

Day 8. Abu Simbel Excursion, Disembark Ship – Cairo

A morning plane excursion takes you to the temples of Abu Simbel, built by Ramesses II as tribute to his favourite wife Nefertari. After lunch, fly back to Cairo.

Leaving the city, we travel south to Philadelphia for a visit to the award-winning National Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell Center, home of the Liberty Bell. We view Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, before continuing to Washington DC, the nation’s capital. This evening we enjoy a Highlight Dinner at a local restaurant (Full breakfast / Highlight dinner)

Day 3 – Washington DC sightseeing & at leisure

We are joined by a local guide who takes us on a sightseeing tour, viewing the Capitol, the White House and many of the capital’s landmark monuments and memorials. Stops are made at the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials and the WWII and Vietnam Veterans Memorials. We then cross the Potomac to Arlington National Cemetery, the fi nal resting place of more than 300,000 people and site of the Tomb of the Unknowns and the Eternal Flame of the Kennedy grave. Here we learn about the history and traditions of Arlington on board a narrated Tourmobile. The afternoon is at leisure; perhaps visit one of the museums of the Smithsonian Institution or take a leisurely stroll and view the monuments up close. (Full breakfast)

Day 4 – Washington DC – Lancaster County – Amish Country

Today your Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure! We head to the lands of the Amish and Mennonites and explore parts of Lancaster County where handmade crafts testify to their old-fashioned values. We pass some of the most productive farms in America, where crops have been grown the same way for the past two hundred years. We visit an Amish farm for a glimpse into a different way of life. This evening, meet with your Amish hosts, participate in a local baking tradition and enjoy a sumptuous Amish-style dinner. (Full breakfast / Be My Guest dinner )

Day 5 – Lancaster County – Niagara Falls

We’re off to Niagara Falls to experience this natural wonder. These famous waterfalls thunder and roar, forming one of the most photographed sights in the world. Day 6 – Niagara Falls – Toronto (2 nights)

Our highlight today is a cruise aboard the Maid of the Mist, which takes us through the churning waters past American and Bridal Veil Falls and into the dense mist of spray inside the curve of Horseshoe Falls. Later we travel across the Niagara Peninsula and stop at picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake before continuing on to Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes. Day 7 – Toronto sightseeing & at leisure

We depart Boston and stop at the historic colonial city of Newport, Rhode Island. There is time to explore this fascinating town before returning to New York. Explore charming Fredericton, settled by British Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution in 1783. Our tour includes views of the University of New Brunswick, one of Canada’s oldest universities, the beautiful Legislative Assembly building and the old Christ Church Cathedral. Later we skirt the shores of the Bay of Fundy, stopping at Fort Beausejour National Historic Site for a visit to this 18th century military outpost, important in the early colonial struggles of the region. Day 4 – Halifax sightseeing & at leisure

Today we explore the sights of this historic city, including a visit to the Citadel National Historic Site, and learn about the link between Halifax and the sinking of the Titanic. Perhaps join us on an optional excursion to picturesque Peggy’s Cove, one of the most charming fishing villages in the Maritimes, with wonderful views of the rocky shoreline and its famous red and white lighthouse. Day 5 – Halifax – Sherbrooke Village – Baddeck (2 nights)

Heading north, we stop at the Fisherman’s Life Museum where we learn about the life of a coastal family in the early 1900’s. On to historic Sherbrooke Village for a visit to this living museum depicting a late 19th century mining and lumber village. Later we cross the Canso Causeway to Cape Breton Island. Traveling along the shores of scenic Bras d’Or Lake, we arrive in the quaint village of Baddeck. (Full breakfast / Dinner)

Day 6 – Cape Breton Highlands National Park & Cabot Trail excursion

We start the day with a visit to the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, where many of the great inventor’s personal artifacts and mementos are on display. Later we follow the splendid Cabot Trail, one of the world’s greatest scenic drives. Mile after stunning mile, this amazing coastline with jagged peaks rising out of the sea provides plenty of photo opportunities. We then continue along the trail to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, home to deep-walled canyons, sandy beaches and majestic cliffs. We return to Baddeck in the late afternoon. (Full breakfast)

Day 7 – Baddeck – Wood Islands Ferry – Charlottetown (2 nights)

Today our Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure to us. We re-cross the Canso Strait and travel through Antigonish to the quaint fishing town of Pictou, one of the finest natural harbors in Canada. We cross the Northumberland Strait by ferry to Prince Edward Island. We then journey through the scenic Prince Edward Island countryside to charming Charlottetown. (Full breakfast)

Day 8 – Prince Edward Island sightseeing & at leisure

We are joined by a local guide and start our exploration of Prince Edward Island. We drive up to the north shore to visit Prince Edward Island National Park, an area of red sandstone cliffs, offshore sand bars, submerged estuaries, and some of Canada’s longest and most popular beaches. In Cavendish we visit Green Gables, the lovely wooden farmhouse which inspired the setting for Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. This evening why not attend an optional performance of the popular musical Anne of Green Gables? (Full breakfast)

Day 9 – Charlottetown – Shediac Bay – Moncton

We travel across the Confederation Bridge, the world’s longest bridge over icecovered water, back to New Brunswick. At Shediac Bay, we board a lobstering cruise. We learn about the daily routine of lobstermen and the proper way to cook and crack lobsters. We finish with a freshly cooked, mouth-watering Lobster Highlight Lunch served on board (weather permitting.) We then visit a local winery and sample local fruit wines. Day 10 – Moncton – Hopewell Rocks – Saint John

This morning we drive along the scenic Bay of Fundy to see the Hopewell Rocks. We join a local guide and learn about these unusual flowerpot-shaped islands carved by the world’s highest tides. We then travel from Moncton to historic Saint John, where we view the amazing Reversing Falls on the Saint John River, a unique phenomenon caused by the tremendous tides in the Bay of Fundy. A short city orientation tour includes a stop at the Old City Market before arriving at our hotel. (Full breakfast)

Day 11 – St. John – Acadia National Park – Bar Harbor

We travel south and cross the border back into the US and the state of Maine. We arrive at the seaside village of Bar Harbor, home to the sumptuous mansions of America’s wealthiest families who come to spend summers along the shores of Frenchman Bay. This afternoon we visit nearby Acadia National Park, the only national park in the New England states. Our tour takes us along the rugged coastline, past golden beaches to the top of Cadillac Mountain for panoramic views. Day 1 – Arrive Vancouver

Day 2 – Vancouver – Strait of Georgia – Victoria (2 nights)

Our tour of Vancouver takes us to Stanley Park where we view the totem poles and learn of their significance to the aboriginal community, English Bay, Chinatown – the second largest Chinese district after San Francisco’s, and historic Gastown with its charming cobblestone streets, courtyards and mews. We then board a ferry and cross the Strait of Georgia, cruising through the beautiful Gulf Islands to Vancouver Island. We journey on by coach to the quaint city of Victoria, a little bit of England on the Pacific coast. Here, an orientation tour introduces us to Bastion Square, the Inner Harbour and the Parliament Buildings. Later, perhaps explore the city further with an optional horse-drawn carriage ride. Day 3 – Victoria sightseeing & at leisure

We start the day with breakfast served in the flower-ladden conservatory at the famous Butchart Gardens. A representative from Butchart Gardens will give us a brief talk on the history of the Butchart Family and the gardens’ exhibits. Later, there is time to explore this 55-acre showcase of extraordinary floral displays. Back in Victoria, the rest of the day is at leisure. Stroll through the flower-filled streets and browse the stores for some early souvernir shopping, or perhaps partake in one of our popular optional activities including a whale watching excursion and an evening walking tour of Chinatown, complete with Chinese banquet. Day 4 – Victoria – Sea to Sky Highway – Whistler

We travel north to Chemainus, a seaside town known for its beautiful murals. We then journey across the Strait of Georgia, back to the mainland and along the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway. After a stop at the 1,105-feet Shannon Falls, we continue the climb over the Coast Mountains to arrive at Whistler, where we are taken on a guided walking tour of this quaint alpine village and learn about this 2010 Olympic venue. Day 5 – Whistler – Cache Creek – Kamloops

This morning we travel across the fertile Pemberton Valley and along the scenic Duffy Lake Road, often referred to as “one of the best drives in Canada.” We stop at Historic Hat Creek Ranch, where we visit the historic buildings and learn about this early trading post. We also visit a native village and learn about the Shuswap Nation’s fascinating history and culture before continuing on through the high desert of interior British Columbia, renowned for its natural resources, including agriculture and timber. We then arrive in Kamloops, or “Meeting of the Waters” in Shuswap language as it is here that the two branches of the Thompson River join. Day 6 – Kamloops – Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks – Banff (2 nights)

Today we head for the great Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, a UNESCO World Heritage area. We first visit Mount Revelstoke National Park, where we travel from dense old-growth rainforest of giant cedar and pine, to sub-alpine forest leading to alpine meadows and tundra with spectacular views of the ice-clad peaks of the Monashee Mountains. At Giant Cedars, weather permitting, we’ll enjoy a walk through a stand of 1000-year old cedars. Next, we enter Glacier National Park and climb over Rogers Pass. After crossing the Columbia River, we enter the Rocky Mountain trench. Our next national park is Yoho, where we view the Natural Bridge spanning the Kicking Horse River and the famous Spiral Tunnels, constructed so that freight trains – typically up to a mile long – can safely climb the narrow valley. Crossing the Continental Divide, we enter Banff National Park, Canada’s oldest national park, and arrive at the quintessential alpine resort of Banff. (Full breakfast / Dinner)

Day 7- Banff sightseeing & at leisure

Our tour of Banff features the classic viewpoint of Surprise Corner along Tunnel Mountain Drive, Bow Falls and the wind-shaped rock formations known as hoodoos. We then board the Banff Gondola for a ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain to experience a bird’s eye view of six mountain ranges from the upper terminal. The rest of the day is yours to do as you please; explore the shops along Banff Avenue, or join one of the many optional activities, including a scenic helicopter flight over Mount Assiniboine, a river float trip down the Bow River, or a guided nature walk. Later, why not partake in a fun and entertaining celebration of Canada at an awardwinning dinner show? (Full breakfast)

Day 8 – Banff – Lake Louise – Icefields Parkway – Jasper (2 nights)

Our first stop is at beautiful Lake Louise where we are taken on an interpretive walk along the lakeshore. We learn about the history and geography of the area and soak in the stunning landscape combining azure glacial waters, deep green forests, jagged snow-covered mountains and the mighty Victoria Glacier. We then head north along the stunning Icefields Parkway, driving beneath snowcapped peaks, thundering waterfalls and glistening glaciers. Keep an eye out for wildlife including elk, black bear and mountain goat. We continue onto the Columbia Icefield where we board an Ice Explorer for a unique journey onto the massive Athabasca Glacier. We then head for Jasper in the heart of Jasper National Park. After dinner, we learn about Rocky Mountain wildlife at a fun and informative presentation by a local expert. (Full breakfast / Buffet dinner)

Day 9 – Jasper National Park sightseeing & at leisure

This morning we enjoy an interpretive walk at Maligne Canyon, one of the most beautiful gorges in the Rockies. We learn about the underground river system – one of the longest in Canada – while strolling along the canyon’s trail, past beautiful waterfalls and spectacular rock formations. The rest of the day is at leisure in Jasper to enjoy the superb vistas, stroll the quaint streets, or join one of the optional activities which include a lake cruise on beautiful Maligne Lake, a gentle float trip down the Athabasca River, a guided alpine excursion to Mount Edith Cavell, and an evening of wildlife spotting followed by a relaxing soak in natural hot springs. Day 10 – Jasper – Mount Robson – Lac Le Jeune

Today our Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure. We head west over Yellowhead Pass and arrive at Mount Robson, the Rockies’ tallest peak at 12,989 ft. We then follow the Thompson River as it winds its way down through the Columbia Mountains to arrive at our resort, beautifully located on the shores of Lac Le Jeune. Here we join a local expert on a nature walk to the beaver dam at the end of the lake, and learn about the resident beaver colony. Day 3 – Toronto – Kingston

We start the day with an orientation tour of Toronto, viewing Queen’s Park, the busy entertainment district, stately University Avenue and the CN Tower. Here, we visit Old Fort Henry, a 19th century British military fortress, and learn about British garrison life during the year of Canada’s confederation. Our first stop today is at the picturesque village of Baie-Saint-Paul, where there is time to stroll the streets lined with beautiful ancestral homes, boutiques and art galleries. Next we visit the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, located within one of the most visited shrines in North America. We then stop at the beautiful Montmorency Falls, which at 275 feet are nearly 100 feet taller than those at Niagara, before entering Quebec City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded as a trading post at a narrowing of the St. Lawrence River, the walled city quickly grew on the cliffs overlooking the river. Day 2 – Calgary – Icefields Parkway – Columbia Icefield – Jasper (2 nights)

Today our Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure! We travel along the worldfamous Icefields Parkway, one of the world’s most spectacular mountain drives. Marvel at the unsurpassed scenery including sub-alpine forests, meadows, massive glaciers and remarkable lakes. Keep an eye out for grizzly and black bears, moose, elk and other wildlife. At the Columbia Icefield, we board an Ice Explorer for the trip of a lifetime as we drive onto the massive Athabasca Glacier. En route to Jasper, perhaps enjoy an optional float trip down the Athabasca River. We then drive to the quaint township of Jasper, where we spend the next two nights. We start the day with a narrated walk along Maligne Canyon, one of the most beautiful gorges in the Canadian Rockies. Snow-capped peaks, hanging glaciers, pounding waterfalls and surging rivers dominate the landscape as we head to Banff National Park and explore three of North America’s most beautiful lakes. First we cross the Continental Divide and enter Yoho National Park where we view the Spiral Tunnels, Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake, a jewel sparkling with the blue-green hue of an emerald. Next is Moraine Lake, nestled in the dramatic Valley of the Ten Peaks. We then head to Lake Louise, one of the most breathtaking settings in the world. Here we enjoy a narrated promenade along the lakeshore and learn about the geography and history of the area. Day 2 – Pearl Harbor – Honolulu sightseeing & at leisure

Meet with your Tour Director and fellow travelers for a private gathering and then head out to Pearl Harbor for a visit to the USS Arizona, a tribute to those military personnel killed in the fatal attack of December 7, 1941. On to Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, followed by Downtown Honolulu to view the King Kamehameha Statue, Iolani Palace – the only official royal residence on American soil – and the State Capitol. Also included in today’s excursion is a visit to a renowned coral jewelry workshop where you learn how Hawaii’s rare and precious corals are harvested, graded and crafted into unique island designs. Day 3 – Oahu – Hawaii Volcanoes National Park – Kona (2 nights)

Start with a short flight to the island of Hawaii. Landing in Hilo, set out on a fabulous day of sightseeing. Experience diverse scenery as you make your way across the island to the Kona Coast. En route, explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to Mauna Loa, the most massive volcano on earth, and Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano which has been erupting almost continually since 1983 and produces rivers of fiery lava. After a Highlight Lunch at the Volcano House, visit the Jaggar Museum and learn of the explosive beginnings of the Hawaiian Islands and get the opportunity to walk through an actual lava tube. Your Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure before the journey continues on through macadamia nut orchards and Kona’s famous coffee farms. Stop at a local coffee plantation and see how Kona coffee is grown, harvested and processed. This evening head to Seaport Village, a waterfront entertainment area recreating a harborside setting of a century ago with meandering cobblestone pathways, ponds, fountains and colorful, lush landscaping. Day 3 – San Diego – San Juan Capistrano – Hollywood – Santa Monica

Journey north and visit the beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano, one of the original missions built by the Spanish. On to the palm-lined streets of Beverly Hills, including famous Rodeo Drive and then the fabled Sunset Strip. After a lunch stop at the historic Farmers Market, join a guided tour of the Kodak Theatre, home of the Academy Awards ceremonies. Day 5 – Cambria – San Simeon – Carmel – Monterey

A short drive along the coast brings you to San Simeon for a guided tour of Hearst Castle. Built on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific, the spectacular grounds and grandiose home feature the world-class art collection of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Your Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure before continuing north through the beautiful rolling hills of California’s Central Coast, dotted with vineyards. Stop at the artist colony of Carmel with time to stroll down the tree-lined Ocean Avenue, past quirky shops and art galleries. Travel along the scenic 17 Mile Drive, home to multi-million dollar mansions and the Pebble Beach Golf Links, to the historic seaside town of Monterey, where Cannery Row and Fisherman’s Wharf reflect the city’s long history with the sea. This evening is at leisure in Monterey. (Full breakfast)

Day 6 – Monterey – Sierra Joaquin Valley – Yosemite National Park

Journey inland through the fertile San Joaquin Valley, known as the breadbasket of California. Stop at a historic fruit stand for a chance to buy fresh-off-the-farm fruit. Travel through the wooded Sierra Nevada Mountains and arrive at Yosemite National Park. Enter the spectacular Yosemite Valley and view the giant iconic formations of El Capitan and Half Dome and the breathtaking Yosemite Falls, the highest in North America. Enjoy a stroll along the Merced River and take in the immense beauty of this spectacular mountain setting. (Full breakfast)

Day 7 – Yosemite – Napa/Sonoma – San Francisco (2 nights)

Travel down the Sierras through Gold Country and enter the famous California Wine Country. Journey along the scenic Carneros Highway and stop at a family-owned vineyard for an exclusive winery experience. Meet with the owners who take you on a private tour of their winery. Sample estate-produced wines and olive oil served with local artisan cheeses, and savor a delicious luncheon of fresh local produce, served alfresco with sweeping views over the vineyards of the Sonoma Valley. Heading south, we arrive in the city-by-the-bay, San Francisco. As an option this evening, why not join a walking tour of Chinatown, where an ancient culture from the other side of the world survives and flourishes with remarkable authenticity; visit a fortune cookie factory and enjoy a delicious Chinese banquet at a local restaurant. Day 8 – San Francisco sightseeing & at leisure

Enjoy a morning tour of North America’s most romantic city. See the famous sights of this eclectic metropolis: Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, the Victorian mansions of Alamo Square, the rolling hills of the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. Spend the afternoon at your leisure. This evening join your fellow passengers for a Farewell Dinner at Fisherman’s Wharf and toast to your California adventure. (Full breakfast / Farewell dinner)
