Day 1: Arrive Bangkok

Day 2: Bangkok – Chiang Mai
Morning free at leisure for site seeing & shopping before your afternoon flight to Chiang Mai. (B)
Day 3: Chiang Mai – Cooking School
Take in the views from the summit of Doi Suthep Mountain and observe how modern Chiang Mai people ‘make merit’ using incense and flowers. Continue to the Thai Cookery School and begin shopping for fresh ingredients at the market. Receive an introduction to Thai ingredients, paste making and vegetable carving, as well as the opportunity to select your own organic herbs from the herb garden. You will get to cook each dish yourself before relaxing in peaceful surrounds to eat the fruits of your efforts. Enjoy a local style dinner on the Ping River at a favourite haunt for local people, it is unusual to ever see any tourists here. Afterwards you have the option to visit the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. Day 4: Chiang Mai
After breakfast be introduced to Lanna arts and culture. Transfer to a textile studio for a class in Lanna textiles. Dye textiles and create your own design to be taken home as a souvenir. Other lessons will include a dance class during which you will learn basic poses, court dances and martial-art dances; also enjoy a flower arrangement class and a cooking class. (B,L)
Day 5: Chiang Mai – Luang Prabang
After breakfast you are free at leisure to explore Chiang Mai. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang. (B)
Day 6: Luang Prabang
Rise early this morning and participate in the Buddhist rite of almsgiving to the monks in front of Wat Sene, then embark on a leisurely walking tour to explore the city. Wander through back lanes and reach Wat Xieng Thong, arguably the finest temple in Luang Prabang. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 7: Luang Prabang Cooking Class
Travel to the Phosy Market with Lao-born Californian Sirivanh (Vanh) Thammavong, who has had a life-long passion for cooking. After the revolution in 1975, she opened the first restaurant for foreigners in Vientiane. Learn about the fruits, vegetables and spices you’ll be working with today. Return to her restaurant at Villa Ban Lao and laugh and share in her traditional Lao recipes as you learn to create your lunch. (B,L)
Day 8: Pak Ou Caves
Relax on a Mekong Riverboat trip to visit the famous & sacred Pak Ou Buddha Caves, home to many thousands of Buddha images that were placed here by local people since the 16th Century. In the evening, participate in a traditional Baci blessing ceremony. (B,L)
Day 9: Depart Luang Prabang

Itinerary:
Day 1: Bangkok
Arrive into bustling Bangkok and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2: Bangkok
Visit the Jim Thompson House and Textile Museum to see the art and textiles of a man who was credited with reviving and revitalizing the Thai silk industry. Continue to the golden Grand Palace and royal barge museum before relaxing with a cocktail whilst cruising the canals, passing vendors selling food such as spices and grilled chicken from their boats.
Day 3: Bangkok – Chiang Mai
Fly to Chiang Mai, a charming city nestled in the hills of the north and visit some of the beautiful and historic Buddhist Wats (temples). In the evening you may choose to walk and shop the Night Bazaar, full of Thai and Lao textiles, silver and much more.
Day 4: Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai
Head east through stunning mountainous scenery to the quieter city of Chiang Rai.
Day 5: Chiang Rai – Pakbeng
An early start to cross the border into Lao for a boat cruise on the Mekong River to Pakbeng, stopping for a picnic lunch on the riverbank and a visit to a village of the Yao or Lu tribes along the way.
Day 6: Pakbeng – Luang Prabang
This morning visit Pakbeng market, where people from surrounding villages exchange their goods, then board a boat for the second leg of the cruise. Journey to Pak Ou Village at the mouth of the Nam Ou River, enjoying a buffet lunch along the way. Visit the Tam Ting Caves, containing over a 1000 Buddha images of all sizes and shapes. Observe the traditional process of producing local rice alcohol (Lao Lao).
Day 7: Luang Prabang
Enjoy a guided tour around Luang Prabang and you will understand why it deserves its World Heritage title.
Day 8: Kuang Sii Waterfall
Morning at leisure before spending the afternoon cooling off at Kuang Sii Waterfall. The falls cascade over many calcified tiers and down several hundred feet into a series of cool, turquoise pools.
Day 9: Luang Prabang
Guided by the cooking school’s chef, visit the colourful and vibrant Phosy Market to select ingredients. Begin your cooking class creating dishes under a sun roof in the garden. Enjoy the lunch that you prepared!
Day 10: Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng
Drive along winding beautiful roads south to Vang Vieng (approx 6 hours). Pass by many beautiful limestone karst vistas and upon arrival the afternoon is yours to relax in this lovely town.
Day 11: Vang Vieng
Enjoy the scenic wonders of Vang Vieng at leisure. You may choose to go inner tubing down the river, kayaking, caving or just relax and enjoy the amazing views from your balcony!
Day 12: Vang Vieng – Vientiane
Drive three hours to Vientiane. Visit Wat Sisaket, with its thousands of miniature Buddha statues, as well as many other sites and monuments sparkling golden in the sunlight.
Day 13: Depart Vientiane

Day 1: Luang Prabang
Arrive into Luang Prabang and enjoy a half day tour around this beautiful World Heritage town. Visit a number of golden Wats (temples) and local sites and spend the afternoon exploring on your own at ‘local pace’.
Day 2: Luang Prabang
Begin a Mekong Riverboat trip to visit the famous and sacred Pak Ou Buddha Caves, home to many thousands of Buddha images placed by local people since the 16th century. Visit the village of Ban Xang Khong where weaving of traditional Lao textiles takes place on ancient wooden looms. (B)
Day 3: Kuang Si Waterfall
If you wish, get an early start and participate in the traditional Lao rite of almsgiving to the monks. In the city, some 300 monks file through silently collecting alms. After breakfast, drive to Kuang Si waterfall for a swim. The falls cascade over many calcified tiers and down several hundred feet into a series of cool, turquoise pools. Day 4: Luang prabang – Xieng Khouang
Today drive to Xieng Khouang (about 8 hours), a great way to see more of rural Laos. Stop along the way to stretch your legs and catch scenic views. (B,L)
Day 5: Xieng Khouang – Plain of Jars
After breakfast, transfer to the Plain of Jars, one of the more mysterious sites in Laos. Visit the Old Town and the stupa and temple at Muang Khoun. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before returning to the hotel. (B,L)
Day 6: Xieng Khouang – Vang Vieng
Transfer to Vang Vieng, a charming small town set amidst mountains with deep caves (about 6 hours). Enjoy lunch along the way. On arrival, check in to the hotel and relax on the scenic banks of the Song River. (B,L)
Day 7: Vang Vieng
Today explore Vang Vieng. On your own, you may choose to explore caves, go kayaking, inner tubing, cycling or simply relax on your balcony with wonderful views. (B,L)
Day 8: Vang Vieng – Vientiane
Check out and drive to Vientiane (about 3 hours). Enjoy a city tour of various golden Wats (temples) and monument, followed by lunch. (B,L)
Day 9: Vientiane – Pakse
After a very early breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Pakse. Upon arrival, embark on an easy 4 hour hike up to the Dan Sin Say Plateau. This hike goes through a local village, coffee plantations, over a hanging bridge and on to the plains. Huge boulders, pine trees, epiphytes and wild orchids abound, giving it a wholly different character of landscape. Return to the hotel for lunch, afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 10: Pakse – 4000 Islands Area
Drive south to the famous Khmer Temple complex of Wat Phou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site represents the easternmost border of the Khmer empire. Continue on to visit an Elephant Camp to see how handlers (“mahouts”) train these giant friendly beasts! Ride one of the friendly pachyderms to the top of Phou Asa to see mysterious ruins there. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant then continue to 4000 Islands by van and boat. (B,L)
Day 11: 4000 Islands Area
Enjoy a trip by boat to the largest waterfalls in Asia, Khone Phapeng & Li Phi Falls. Here also live some 50-100 Irrawaddy (freshwater) dolphins. If lucky, you’ll have the chance to see them! Spend the afternoon at leisure or exploring the island on your own. (B)
Day 12: 4000 Islands – Pakse

Laos Highlights

This morning, enjoy a boat cruise on the Mekong River to the holy caves of Pac Ou. In the afternoon, visit Vat Xieng Thong, The Golden City monastery as well as the fine temples of Vat May and Vat Vixoun.
Day 3: Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng
This morning drive south to Vang Vieng, stopping along the way for ample photo opportunities of this beautiful country and a chance to taste some local food for lunch (about 6 hours). On arrival in Vang Vieng, check into the hotel and watch the sunset over the distant hills.
Day 4: Vang Vieng

After breakfast travel to Vientiane (about 3 hours). In the afternoon enjoy a guided tour to the major temples of Vat Sisaket, Vat Prakeo and the impressive That Luang Stupa. Also see Patuxai, the Arch of Triumph and the Morning Market. In the evening, stroll along the banks of the Mekong River in the quiet, capital city.

Cycling Saigon to Angkor

After your arrival in Saigon, we will assist you in transferring to the border town of Moc Bai. Here you cross the border to Cambodia where the Cambodian cycling guide is waiting. Cycle to Svay Rieng town; enjoy a well earned dinner at a local restaurant. (L,D)
Day 2: Svay Rieng – Neak Leung (Cycle 62 Km)
Early breakfast. Cycle on a sealed road into the beautiful green countryside. Along the way you will see rice fields and water buffalos nearby the road. Enjoy a packed lunch before continuing to the ferry town of Neak Leung, where you will spend the night. (B,L)
Day 3: Neak Leung – Phnom Penh (Cycle 60 Km)
After breakfast cycle to the ferry boat to cross the lower Mekong River and cycle 60km to the capital city of Phnom Penh. After lunch continue several kilometers before crossing the French colonial Monivong Bridge to the hotel. (B,L)
Day 4: Phnom Penh
Today take a guided walking tour through this bustling city to explore the main sights, including Wat Phnom, the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and the National Museum. In the afternoon, visit the Independence Monument, Tuol Sleng Museum and Choeung Ek Killing Fields. (B,L)
Day 5: Phnom Penh – Skun (Cycle 77 Km)
Cycle over the Japanese bridge on National Road No 6 to Skun town. The first 15 km is through this bustling city sharing the road with a variety of modes of transport, many of them adaptations on a basic motorbike. Afterwards continue north towards the town of Skun, lying at the crossroads between the north and east of the country. (B,L)
Day 6: Skun – Kampong Thom (Cycle 85 Km)
Another scenic day of cycling, surrounded by paddy fields and huge open plains, the scenery broken only by sugar palm trees, wooden huts and pagodas. After a packed lunch, continue cycling on the National Road No. 6. Enjoy views of Santuk Mountain in the distance before arriving in Kampong Thom, a small but energetic town with a fascinating market. (B,L)
Day 7: Kampong Thom – Kampong Kdei (Cycle 83 Km)
Cycle beneath the roadside palms past Preak Pros Lake and enter Kampng Svay district. After lunch, cycle through an area that was formerly the front line of the Khmer Rouge in the 1980s and signs of war and subsequent de-mining campaigns become more prevalent, hitting home how much has changed in this country in the last few years. Day 8: Kampong Kdei – Siem Reap (Cycle 60 Km)
Today cycle on an easy road and a magnificent 12th century stone carved bridge. Lunch in a small town called Dam Dek before the final afternoon’s ride to Angkor, a majestic climax to your cycling trip. (B,L)

Day 1: Arrive Siem Reap
On arrival transfer to a luxury hotel. Afternoon visit of Banteay Srei Temple. Banteay Srey translates to “Citadel of the Women” and displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art. The walls are indeed covered with some of the most beautiful carvings of any Angkorian temple. In the evening drive to Pre Rup temple mountain overlooking the jungle for champagne and hors d’oeuvres while watching the sunset. Dinner at Madame Butterfly restaurant. (D)
Day 2: Angkor Complex
Sunrise at Sra Srang Baray (Basin). Originally constructed by the same architect as Pre Rup, it was then remodeled in the 12th century by Jayavarman VII. Enjoy a picnic breakfast on the banks of the Baray and have time to relax. Visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom as well as Ta Prohm Temple. Ta Prohm has been only partially restored and thus offers an interesting insight on how the Angkor Complex looked before being rediscovered by the French explorers. Day 4: Halong Bay – Hanoi
This morning continue to move around the bay to find more secluded areas to either swim or kayak. At around midday, the boat will return to the main harbor before transferring to an awaiting vehicle for the journey back to Hanoi. (B,L)
Day 5: Hue
Transfer to airport for your flight to Hue. Arriving in Hue, pick up and transfer to your hotel. Today our city tour includes the mausoleum of former emperor Minh Mang, in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes. In the afternoon visit the elaborate mausoleums of Emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh and the Imperial Citadel from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. (B)
Day 6: Hue – Hoi An
This morning’s tour starts with a boat trip on the romantically named Perfume River to visit Hue’s best-known religious site, Thien Mu Pagoda. Afterwards drive to Hoi An via Danang. The scenic route climbs over the Pass of Ocean Clouds before dropping down to the wonderfully photogenic fishing village of Lang Co. On arrival in Hoi An in late afternoon, transfer to hotel (B)
Day 7: Hoi An
Hoi An was a major Asian trading port in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and its picturesque architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years. Take a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit former merchants’ houses, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colorful market. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 8: Hoi An – Ho Chi Minh City
Drive to Danang and transfer to the airport for the morning flight to Ho Chi Minh City, then transfer to your hotel. Day 9: Tay Ninh – Cu Chi Tunnels
