18 day Majesty of Egypt and Jordan – Cairo to Amman Tour
Explore Cairo then enjoy a River Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan. Later fly to majestic Abu Simbel then continue to Alexandria before crossing into Jordan for a look at the red city of Petra, the famous Dead Sea and more.
Itinerary
Day 1. Arrive Cairo
Arrive in Cairo and transfer to your hotel, with the remainder of the day free to explore. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Dinner.
Three Night Stay: Cairo, Sofitel El Gezirah

Day 2. Cairo Sightseeing
Start at the famous Museum of Egyptian Antiquities and admire the riches of King Tutankhamen’s tomb. After lunch, tour the Old City of Cairo and continue to the Citadel of Saladin and Mohammed Ali Mosque, before visiting the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar.

Day 3. Memphis, Sakkara, Pyramids and Sphinx Excursion
Travel to Memphis and see the statue of Ramesses II and a temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor. Continue to Sakkara, containing some 80 pyramids and hundreds of tombs. Later drive to the Giza Plateau, home of the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, carved almost entirely from one piece of limestone, before returning to Cairo.

Day 4. Cairo – Luxor, Embark Ship
Early this morning, transfer to the airport for the flight to Luxor. Upon arrival board your ship. Luxor became the capital of the New Kingdom around 1500 BC and developed into a major trading centre with luxurious palaces and massive temples. Here, tour the temples of Luxor and Karnak. Then tonight, after dinner, take in a spectacular sound and light show at Karnak Temple on the River Nile.

Day 5. Luxor – West Bank and Valley of the Kings – Esna
Take a boat to the West Bank of the Nile River and pass through the ancient town of Thebes to the Valley of the Kings. Here the tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered in 1922. Continue to Deir-el-Bahari, Queen Hatshepsut’s temple. Stop at the Colossi of Memnon then cruise to Esna and watch rural life unfold in a very similar way to ancient Egyptian times. Tonight enjoy an Egyptology lecture.

Day 6. Edfu – Kom Ombo
In Edfu, take a horse carriage to the Temple of Horus, Egypt’s best preserved temple. Continue to the Temple of Kom Ombo, set on a hill overlooking the Nile. The ship moors overnight in Kom Ombo.

Day 7. Aswan – Philae Temple
Today explore the Nile in a felucca sailboat. Admire Elephantine Island, the Botanical Garden and the Aga Khan Mausoleum, then visit Philae Temple. The construction of Aswan’s High Dam would have flooded Philae Island, so the temple was dismantled and moved to Angilika Island.

Day 8. Abu Simbel Excursion, Disembark Ship – Cairo
A morning plane excursion takes you to the temples of Abu Simbel, built by Ramesses II as tribute to his favourite wife Nefertari. After lunch, fly back to Cairo.

Day 9. Cairo – Alexandria
Depart Cairo and travel by coach to Alexandria. Check in to your hotel and enjoy time at leisure before dinner.

Day 10. Alexandria
Explore Alexandria, built in 332 BC by Alexander the Great. Under Roman occupation, it was the second city of the Roman Empire. See Pompey’s Pillar, the Nilometer, the Roman Amphitheatre and much more.

Day 11. Alexandria – Cairo
After breakfast, enjoy the morning in Alexandria, then travel via the port town El Alamein on your return to Cairo.

Day 12. Cairo – Amman
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Amman, one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world (flight at own expense). On arrival, enjoy the afternoon at leisure to explore or relax.

Day 13. Amman – Petra
Today journey from Amman to Petra. Along the way, stop and explore the town of Madaba, Mt Nebo, and the magnificent Crusader fortress of Kerak.

Day 14. Petra Sightseeing
On a tour of World Heritage-listed Petra, explore the arched gateways, temples, and colonnaded streets. Surrounded by towering hills of rust-coloured sandstone, Petra was recently named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Today you’ll see why this ancient city is considered the most amazing site in Jordan. In the evening discover Petra by Night, with the entire al-Siq and Treasury lit up by over 1,500 candles – a truly unforgettable sight.

Day 15. Petra – Dead Sea
Today take a two hour Jeep tour of Wadi Rum and its sheer granite and sandstone cliffs, then transfer to the famous site of the Dead Sea and check in to your hotel.

Day 16. Dead Sea, Bethany
Travel to Bethany, a place associated with the lives of Jesus and John the Baptist. Then enjoy the chance to swim in the Dead Sea, one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water where you can float.

This morning return to Amman for a city tour.
