Itinerary
Day 1. Johannesburg
Join your tour at the Garden Court Hotel today. Meet your fellow travellers at tonight’s Welcome Dinner.

Day 2. Johannesburg
Visit the Apartheid Museum, then head to Soweto and drive down Vilikazi Street past the homes of Nobel Peace Prize recipients Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and Albert Luthuli. Stop for lunch at a traditional shebeen (informal restaurant).

Day 3. Kruger National Park
Visit the attractions of the ‘Panorama Route’, including God’s Window, the Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels and the historic gold mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest. Descend the eastern escarpment and travel through the ‘lowveld’.

Day 4. Kruger National Park
Join a full day safari in Kruger National Park, searching for Africa’s ‘Big Five’ – elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard.

Visit Nelspruit Botanical Garden, then head to Lowveld National Botanical Garden, touring with a Botanical Guide. Enjoy lunch at the gardens.

Day 6. Cape Town
Fly to Cape Town then spend the day at leisure (airfare not included).

Ride a cable car up Table Mountain. Visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, known for its diverse flora and setting against the slopes of Table Mountain. Tour the gardens with a Botanical Guide. Travel to Groot Constantia Winery for a tour and tastings.

Day 8. Cape Town
Travel to Hout Bay and Seal Island. Journey along Chapman’s Peak Drive and the Cape Peninsula to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Visit Boulders Beach, home to a rare African penguin colony and see blooming protea and native flora.

Day 9. Langebaan
Travel to West Coast National Park, where seabirds roost on sheltered islands and golden beaches stretch endlessly. Enjoy colourful wildflower displays.

Day 10. Swellendam
Travel to Worcester and Karoo Desert Botanical Garden – the only succulent garden in the southern hemisphere. See annuals and vygies in flower as well as Namaqualand flora. The garden is a haven for rare endangered plants, with over 300 species protected and propagated. Continue to the Van Loveren Wine Estate and the Retief family’s garden of hydrangeas, trees, roses and cycads.

Day 11. Garden Route
At Mossel Bay, see the Post Office Tree, where early seafarers left messages for passing vessels. Visit the Fancourt Country Club, then head to the Aloe Ferox Factory and see the Aloe Ferox plant harvested.

Ride the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train. Board a ferry for a cruise on the Knysna Lake with a guide to explain the ecosystem of the wetlands.

Head to Hermanus, where Southern Right whales can be seen between July and November.
