This morning your A&K chauffeur will transfer you to the airport to fly by chartered aircraft to Mt. Borradaile Safari Camp. Mount Borradaile lies in the heart of Arnhemland, the largest Aboriginal reserve in Australia. It is situated on an exclusive lease of 700 square kilometres of pristine wilderness and you will experience this part of Australia only discovered by a few people. 

If time and seasonal conditions allow, a swim in rock pools atop the escarpment sharpens your appetite for lunch. After a lunch of fresh salads and/or cold meats, spend the early afternoon in cool rock overhangs near the camp. Take time to absorb the spirit of at least 55,000 years of human creativity. 

In the late afternoon visit a billabong for a sunset cruise where you can, with a glass of wine and nibbles in hand, admire the amazing bird-life and crocodiles. The sunset’s blaze of colour reflecting golden orange on Mount Borradaile floodplain heralds the return to camp for a shower, dinner and the friendly buzz of conversation.

Accommodation at Davidson’s is in permanent tents with basic shared amenities. The quality of the experience and the remoteness of this destination far outweigh any material comforts. (B,L,D).

Spend the morning exploring the region with your naturalist guide visiting 55,000-year-old Aboriginal rock art and occupation sites, complete with an interpretation of their cultural and historical significance.

Learn about traditional food and medicines during a walk in the bush. This afternoon is free for you to swim in the billabong or simply soak up the magnificent country or perhaps go fishing for the elusive barramundi for tonight’s meal. (B,L,D).

Take a guided morning walk with time to swim or fish. After lunch, fly by private charter to Bamurru Plains, an extraordinary wilderness experience on the coastal flood plains of the Mary River. Situated just west of Kakadu National Park, Bamurru Plains is an utterly exclusive bush camp that exudes ‘Wild Bush Luxury’, bringing a touch of style to a remote and beautiful wilderness region. Immerse yourself in the exclusive wilderness surroundings of Bamurru Plains discovering the true and very special magic of the Mary River Floodplains.

Accommodation is simple yet stylish. There are only 9 Safari style bungalows, built with environmentally sensitive design and set amongst the savannah bush that fringes the floodplains. The bungalows stand on raised timber platforms, with solid walls and large meshed windows allowing the cool breeze to flow from the wetlands and give you the feeling of sleeping outdoors. Each has supremely comfortable double or twin beds, hard wood floors and full ensuite facilities. With no telephones, TVs, CD players or the typical features of a hotel room to distract you, your focus turns to the surrounding environment.

Touring at Bamurru is structured for a maximum of 6 guests per guide at any one time. Your guides’ knowledge of the area brings the experience alive.

Whilst at Bamurru all meals and beverages including alcohol, private guided activities such as 4WD Safaris, Airboat trips across the Mary River Floodplains, bushwalking, bird-watching and crocodile river cruise are included for your enjoyment.

A morning trip out on the plains in an airboat is utterly exhilarating and the only way to truly experience this environment. The Mary River catchment is home to some 236 species of bird, many of which are found at Bamurru Plains. The significance of this particular property comes in the variety of habitat: black soil floodplains, paperbark swamps, savannah woodland, river mangroves and coastal beaches support an extraordinary diversity of birdlife. Even in the dry season the Swim Creek floodplain retains large areas of water where the birdlife congregates in vast numbers. The floodplains on the property still retain large areas of water to which the birdlife congregates in extraordinary numbers rarely seen elsewhere in Australia. (B,L,D).
