Today we visit the ruins at Olympia, site of the ancient games from at least 776 B.C. A picnic lunch is provided and there is time to explore the landmark sites such as ANZAC Cove, the Nek, Lone Pine and Shrapnel Gully.<br />

We continue our historic journey in Pergamon, where we enjoy lunch. We’ll visit the magnificent Acropolis, which contains the ruins of Pergamon’s acclaimed 200,000 volume library. We depart for Izmir, where this evening a spectacular dinner has been organised at one of the best seafood restaurants in the city.<br />

Here among other amazing sites such as the Library, we will visit the House of Virgin Mary, who is reputed to have come to Ephesus with the apostle John shortly before the end of her life in 37 AD.<br />

Our local guide will show us around Samos town before we learn about the local industries of ceramics and ouzo. We head into the fertile hills, covered with vineyards to visit one of the many beautiful ancient monasteries on the island, Agia Triada and be told about the tragic history of the priest monk who founded it. We then arrive in Pythagorion, birthplace of the mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras which also boasts the largest manmade marina in the Mediterranean. Lunch is followed by our ferry ride back to Turkey. Tonight enjoy dinner at our hotel.</td>

We continue to Side, overflowing with archaeological wonders and surrounded on both sides by the deep, blue water of the Mediterranean before returning to Antalya. We visit the Mevlana Museum, former monastery of the Dervishes which contains the tomb of the groups 13th century spiritual leader, and the Karatay Medrese, a Seljuk school constructed in 1251. Enjoy some leisure time before we head off to the moon-like landscapes of Cappadocia.<br />

Today we explore the incredible underground cities of Cappadocia, of which there are estimated to be over 200. Enjoy a traditional lunch at the Old Greek House Restaurant. <strong><em>SCENIC</em></strong><em>ENRICH</em>  We’re entertained by a Whirling Dervish performance in a 13th century Caravan Inn, where we shall be entranced by the intricate dancing and music that is as old as the building we are seated in.</td>

This morning we visit Agzikarahan, site of a well preserved Seljuk caravanserai, where for hundreds of years camel caravans traversing ancient trade routes would stop overnight. En-route to Ankara, view the famous Salt Lake of the fabled Silk Road as you drive through the Anatolian countryside. At Ankara, we visit the Hittite Museum and Anit Kabir, the mausoleum of Ataturk, Turkey’s greatest leader in modern times whose leadership helped win the Gallipoli campaign and who created the modern secular Turkish state. A unique luncheon venue awaits in an ancient castle of this historic city. The rest of the day is at leisure.<br />

We then arrive in Pythagorion, birthplace of the mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras which also boasts the largest manmade marina in the Mediterranean. In total, the museum contains 14 exhibition halls featuring over 5,000 items. The afternoon is at leisure, and dinner tonight is at an exquisite restaurant in the centre of town.<br />

This morning we drive to Konya, a traditional caravan stop and home of the Whirling Dervishes, a mystical Sufi Muslim group. We visit the Mevlana Museum, former monastery of the Dervishes which contains the tomb of the groups 13th century spiritual leader, and the Karatay Medrese, a Seljuk school constructed in 1251. Enjoy some leisure time before we head off to the moon-like landscapes of Cappadocia. The rocks in the region have eroded into hundreds of spectacular pillars, known as ‘fairy chimneys’. Today we explore the incredible underground cities of Cappadocia, of which there are estimated to be over 200. We also visit picturesque Sinassos, which is surrounded by fruit orchards and vineyards and was a Greek settlement until 1923 when a population exchange between Turkey and Greece took place. The town retains many fine stone buildings of Greek origin. At Ankara, we visit the Hittite Museum and Anit Kabir, the mausoleum of Ataturk, Turkey’s greatest leader in modern times whose leadership helped win the Gallipoli campaign and who created the modern secular Turkish state. Enjoy visiting such sites as Heroes’ Square, Matthias Church, the Fisherman’s Bastion and the medieval town on Castle Hill which offers a wonderful panorama over the Hungarian capital. Later we will enjoy coffee and cake in a famous coffee house. <p></strong>We depart Budapest and head into a landscape of picturesque thatched houses and stork nests as we travel south through gentle countryside towards central Europe’s largest lake – Balaton, regarded as a major wine growing region. We arrive in Zagreb where we will take in the sights of the city, whose most noteworthy buildings were constructed during Croatia’s golden age in the 19th century. Enjoy the architecture of the Archbishop’s Palace, Opera House, Cathedral and St Mark’s Church.<br />

This morning we journey to the quaint village of Kumrovec. <strong>SCENIC ENRICH</strong> We are exclusively guided through the house where Tito, the late President of Yugoslavia, was born and which today hosts a large collection of memorabilia on the former leader. We drive to a charming restaurant located in a gorgeous rural landscape for a delicious lunch. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the sights and sounds of Zagreb.<strong> <br />

Our journey this morning takes us to the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic on the north Dalmatian coastline, where we reach the delightful port of Zadar. We stop briefly to savour the delights of the old city, which is located on a tiny promontory and largely free of traffic. We then continue our spectacular drive south along the Dalmatian coast to Split, site of the former Palace of the Emperor Diocletian. Today, the Palace constitutes the inner core of this bustling port city and is inhabited with shops and market squares.<br />

This morning we join a local guide for our city tour, which will reveal the remains of the massive Imperial Palace of Diocletian, constructed from 293 AD, primarily as a retirement home. We will visit the church which is thought to be the oldest in the world and which is still used for services today. Entrance to the Cellars of the Palace is a pearl of wonder with its many famous artefacts on display. Then we hug the coastline with the sparkling sea on our right and majestic mountains on our left as we head to Dubrovnik – commonly known as the Jewel of the Adriatic. This evening we savour Croatian cuisine at a local restaurant.<br />

The walled old town of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World heritage site and has remained largely unchanged since medieval times. The prosperity of the town has always been based on maritime trade and in the Middle Ages it rivalled Venice as a maritime power. We will enjoy a walk around the medieval ramparts which enclose the town and provide magnificent vistas of both the sea and the famous city of red roofs and grey stone. We will also see Onofrio’s Fountain, the Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries.<strong> <br />

We farewell Dubrovnik and head north along the Adriatic, past the glittering islands of Brac and Hvar to the seaport of Trogir, the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic old town in central Europe. Trogir’s medieval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings, churches and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. A last chance to enjoy the sea-breeze before we turn inland and enjoy the rugged natural scenery of the Balkans as we head towards the unique Plitvice National Park.<br />

Continuing our journey, we pass through Karlovac, a city that withstood seven Ottoman sieges in ancient times and is noteworthy for its beautiful parks and rivers. We cross into Slovenia and arrive in its capital Ljubljana, which means ‘much loved’ &#8211; you will see why as we appreciate the attractive architecture of this delightful city. Our sightseeing tour includes the Castle, Opera House, National Museum, Franciscan Church and St. Nicholas Cathedral. Tonight, an opportunity to wander amongst the lively cafés and restaurants to experience the lively atmosphere.<br />

Following a short drive through Triglav National Park we have time to relax and witness Slovenia’s largest glacial lake, Lake Bohinj, before returning to Bled. <strong><em>SCENIC</em></strong><em>ENRICH </em>Enjoy coffee and cake at the famous lakeside Villa Bled, former residence of President Tito, where he hosted global statesmen in the post-war years. Today we will visit Slovenia’s greatest tourist site – the Karst Caves at Postojna. A mini-train will take us underground through a series of beautiful halls adorned with stalagmites and stalagtites, unique shapes that will leave you spellbound. Then on to Lipica stud farm, established for the Holy Roman Empire’s benefit in 1580, where we see the beautiful white Lipizzaner horses that perform dressage at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. We cross the Italian border and pass the cosmopolitan port city of Trieste, arriving this afternoon in magnificent Venice – the most unique city in the world! We cruise up the Grand Canal by private motor launch past ornate and gilded Palazzos and Palladian churches to our superbly located hotel.<br />

This morning we will discover one of the truly magical cities of Europe &#8211; Prague. With our local guide we will walk around Hradcany Castle, visit St Vitus Church and the Mala Strana and walk across the Charles Bridge. One of the most familiar sights in Prague, the Charles Bridge was commissioned in 1357 by Charles IV after the Judith Bridge was destroyed by floods and provides the connection between the Old Town and Little Quarter. We then explore the Old Town Square, see the monument to the Protestant Reformer Jan Huss and witness the Astronomical clock strike the hour. With so much to offer enjoy free time this afternoon to explore this bustling city at leisure. Perhaps treat yourself to a coffee and pastry in one of Prague’s famous coffee houses or simply marvel at the diverse range of architectural designs featured throughout the city, highly recognised for its red roofed buildings. This evening we enjoy a welcome dinner of hearty Czech cuisine.</td>

Rückl crystal is linked to a 300 year long tradition in glass making as a family and today manufactures an extensive range of cut 24% leaded crystal in a wide variety of decorations; or (2) a walking tour of Prague’s Communist era buildings and events. Step back in time to 1948 and re-live the history of these dark controlling years; or (3) a visit to the 13th century Gothic-style Jewish synagogue and its amazing cemetery. Built around 1270 this is the oldest synagogue in Europe. The cemetery has over 12,000 headstones dating back to 1478.</td>

We depart Prague for Dresden, perhaps the greenest city in Germany. Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. On our tour we see the Frauenkirche, the Castle of the Electors of Saxony, the Semper Opera House and visit the courtyards of the Zwinger. We continue our journey through the Spreewald forest to Germany’s capital, Berlin our home for the next two nights.<br />

This morning we journey to Potsdam, former residence of the Prussian Kings until 1918, <strong><em>SCENIC</em></strong><em>ENRICH</em> where our local expert historian on Potsdam shares his knowledge of the town and its history as we visit the Cecilienhof where the Potsdam Treaty was signed in 1945. After free time in Potsdam we return back to Berlin. Berlin has undergone an exciting transformation since reunification in 1989. <strong><em>SCENIC</em></strong><em>ENRICH</em> We have arranged special entry to explore the renovated parliamentary building that was controversially set on fire in 1933. After our tour, we’ll enjoy coffee and cake whilst under the famous glass dome. This afternoon visit the Brandenburg Gate, State Opera House, Alexander Platz, drive ‘Unter den Linden’ and visit the former Checkpoint Charlie. Checkpoint Charlie was once the notorious border crossing between the Soviet and American sectors, and witness to a number of dramatic events during the cold war.</td>

This morning we are taken to the main train station for our journey to Warsaw aboard our first class rail carriage. Time en-route to relax and watch the rural scenery change from the evergreen forests and rolling hills of Germany to the broad agricultural farmland of western Poland. We arrive this evening into Warsaw. Poland’s cultural, entertainment and financial capital was believed to be founded in the late 13th Century, when the Duke Boleshaw built a castle here overlooking the Vistula river.<br />

We see the monument to the Ghetto heroes, the Palace of Culture and the Chopin Memorial. <strong><em>SCENIC </em></strong><em>FREECHOICE </em>choose from: (1) an excursion to Wilanow Palace &#8211; known as Poland’s Versailles; or (2) a magical tour exploring the mythical founders of Warsaw. <strong><em>SCENIC</em></strong><em>ENRICH </em>This evening an exclusive piano concert of Chopin music in Lazienki Palace, stunningly located on an island in a lake, is followed by dinner in one of Warsaw’s finest establishments.</td>

We travel to Czestochowa and admire the portrait of the ‘Black Madonna’, said to have been painted by St Luke and located in the beautiful 14th century Jasna Gora Paulite Monastery. We continue to Auschwitz and visit the former concentration camp and its museum, for chilling reminders of the Holocaust in World War II. Early this evening we arrive in the city of Krakow. Poland’s former capital for nearly six centuries and largest city was one of the few Polish cities scarcely damaged in World War II allowing us to enjoy it in original glory.<br />

This afternoon we visit the nearby 800 year old Wieliczka Salt Mines. Our tour includes statues of historic and mythical figures, all sculpted by miners out of rock salt. This evening we will soak up the atmosphere of a Polish folklore show with dinner.</td>

After breakfast we depart Krakow and cross the border into Slovakia, passing the 13th century Castle of Oravsky Hrad en-route to the Hungarian capital of Budapest. Witness by night the transformation of the city as it illuminates under the night sky.<br />
